Charity concert Play for Ukraine, 29.04.2022, 18:00, 6 Lönnrotinkatu, Helsinki

Musicians of the Sibelius Academy perform in a charity concert to collect money for humanitarian aid for the people in Ukraine.

The concert is organised by the Ukrainian Association in Finland together with the graduates and doctoral students of the Sibelius Academy.

Tickets can be bought online and at the door: 25€ and 10€ (promocode for students, unemployed, pensioners: PlayforUkraine10).

You will hear music composed by the Ukrainian and Finnish composers: Mykola Lysenko (1842-1912), Borys Lyatoshinsky (1895-1968), Zhanna Kolodub (1930), Moses Pergament (1893-1977), and Myroslav Skoryk (1938-2020).

About the musicians:

  • Martin Malmgren has made himself known as a versatile performer, soloist, and chamber musician and lead pianist. His concert programs typically show a thoughtful approach which builds bridges between different musical styles and periods. He has founded the piano recital series Key Discoveries, and also plays in the newly founded Helsinki Chamber Orchestra.
  • Iryna Gorkun-Silén is a Ukrainian born flutist. Iryna has been performing as a soloist, in chamber music ensembles and with orchestras in Europe, USA and South Korea. Iryna is a prize-winner of international music competitions in Ukraine, France, Germany, Italy and USA.
  • Violinist Sebastian Silén performs regularly as soloist, chamber- and orchestral musician. His debut CD includes Finnish music by Pacius, Kajanus and Sibelius. Silén has won prices in national and international competitions and played as soloist with several orchestras in Finland, Switzerland and Italy, such as the Musikkollegium Winterthur in Switzerland and the Kuopio Symphony Orchestra in Finland. He has played the role as Jean Sibelius in the documentary The Forgotten Music of Sibelius (2015).
  • Alexander Pozdniakovas is currently studying for his masters degree under Lilli Maijala and Atte Kilpeläinen. He plays viola and violin.
  • Olga Reskalenko is half Finnish, half Ukrainian freelance violist and pilates instructor based in Helsinki. She mainly works as orchestra and chamber musician in the Helsinki area including Helsinki Philharmonic Orchestra, Avanti!, Finnish National Opera Orchestra and Savonlinna Opera Festival Orchestra among others. She one of the most wanted violists on the music scene.
  • Joasia Cieślak is a cellist, composer, producer and pedagogue. Her musical voice developed over the years of collaborating with musicians from around the world, such as Kristjan Järvi, Gavin Harrison, Michael Bublé and Metropole Orchestra with Snarky Puppy. In 2018 and 2021 she has written music for her crossover ensemble called Misceo which is a collaboration between the classical string players Cieslak / Westerberg and the jazz trio Rönkä / Bülow / Christensen. Their debut album was released in May 2020.
