The Ukrainian Association in Finland has had a productive meeting with the representatives of the Finnish Immigration Service and the Ministry of the Interior concerning the safety of Ukrainians with temporary protection status currently living in reception centers.
We would like to thank the director of the Finnish Immigration Service Ilkka Haahtela, Director of Reception Unit Pekka Nuutinen, and their teams for their rapid reaction to concerns expressed by the Ukrainian community about the safety of Ukrainians and for changes in the policies.
It is important to ensure the safety and well-being of Ukrainians in reception centers. From now on all Russian asylum seekers will be accommodated separately from Ukrainian citizens.
There are several transit reception centers and they are primarily intended for new asylum seekers who have just arrived in Finland. Pekka Nuutinen ensured that Russian asylum seekers in these centers would quickly be moved to separate accommodation.
We encourage Ukrainians who are customers of the reception centers to be active in giving feedback to both the centers’ management, and to Migri, concerning any problems they might face. This is the best way to improve the quality of services. Also, Ukrainians can inform the Ukrainian Association in Finland, their local Ukrainian community, and other civil society organizations such as Finnish Refugee Council.
The Ukrainian Association in Finland will further collaborate with the Reception Unit on ensuring the safety and well-being of Ukrainians living in reception centers.
