Thousands of people lit candles on Senate square in Helsinki

Thousands of people lit candles on Senate square to honor the victims of Russian aggression and to show their support for Ukraine on the 24th of February.

The candlelight ceremony started at 16:00 with the ringing of the bells and a minute of silence. Invited guests, led by President Sauli Niinistö and Prime Minister Sanna Marin, left the first candles on the stairs of Helsinki Cathedral.

Later the choir of the Association of Ukrainians in Finland “Perespiv” performed two touching Ukrainian songs, followed by YL Male voice choir with Finlandia hymn.

The Cathedral lit with blue and yellow, thousands of burning candles, and the acapella singing created a special atmosphere on the square. It was full of hopes that light would prevail and Ukraine, supported by Finland and other countries, would win.
