Faktabaari #FactHacker Hackathon

Faktabaari #FactHacker Hackathon– free for participants and a possibility to win a valuable prise!

The FaktaBaari, a Finnish fact-checking and digital information literacy service, invites Ukrainian young people in Finland to participate in the #FactHacker Hackathon. The purpose of the hackathon is to brainstorm innovative and engaging material that would work well for communities that would benefit from fact-checking skills (especially 18-25-year-old people in social media).

Why participate?

  • The top 2 Hackathon groups will be awarded (with some money!)
  • insight into work promoting the importance of fact-checking and digital information literacy (DIL) for young people from different backgrounds
  • free food, new friends and networking!
  • you get to participate in innovative problem-solving related to social media use, fact-checking and young people as social media users!
  •  the winner can join the Educa fair in January 2024 and share their innovative ideas there

Reserve the following times:

  • Monday, the 2nd of October, at 18-19.30 – a short introductory meeting online in Zoom
  • Friday, the 6th of October, at 18.00-20.00 – participants will work in groups on the assignments (location Hotel Arthur in Helsinki)
  • Saturday, the 7th of October, independent group work from 9 to 12 and from 12.00 to 18.00 at Hotel Arthur in Helsinki, lunch and coffee included. Ending with a pitch competition (pitches of 6 min per group)

Faktabaari EDU has released a video series with the support of the European Parliament’s office in Finland. The purpose is to promote digital information literacy skills for young people.  The target group in the first four videos is especially middle school students and young people attending vocational education and training and high school. However, the videos are useful for people of all ages.
